This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the press preview hour for Dessert Goals (spring disco edition!) Sound River Studios made for the perfect new venue right along the water with high ceilings and amazing natural skylight light (SO great for photographing all the yummy desserts!) I have been to all three NYC editions thus far, and I feel like they get better (sweeter) every time. ;)
I've been wanting to dive into making some video content for awhile now, and I recently invested in a small travel / vlog camera! Dessert Goals was the perfect place to do a test run.
Before Instagram stories came along (and completely ripped off Snapchat), I had so much fun "snapping" on a regular basis - and I MISS IT. It brought me SO much joy! Yes, Instagram stories launched ages ago (2016?) -- and I probably should be "over it" by now.. but I guess deep down I still am not? LOL. Although Instagram stories is *the exact same thing* as Snapchat - I haven't been able to interact with it in the same way for whatever reason. Subconsciously, I think I'm still like *wtf* over the fact that Instagram stories swept Snapchat under the rug in the way that it did..
Anyways, I want to make a conscious effort to find the fun in video making again. So here we are!
I've thought about starting a YouTube channel many many times (and during my Snapchat days, some of you even suggested that I make one) -- but ultimately I kept putting it off. There's something so intimidating about video editing and publishing when it's not going to disappear in 24 hours. As a kid, I was always known as the "shy quiet one." While I feel like I am no longer the "shy quiet one" - talking to a camera or an audience in general is way out of my comfort zone. I want to change that!
FUN FACT: In high school, I used to make "fan videos / music videos" using clips from TV shows... lol. So technically speaking, this isn't my very first stab at YouTube or video editing... BUT, it IS my first time shooting my own video and editing it in vlog style! And I think it turned out pretty alright??
I hope to keep making videos of my adventures (near and far), and look forward to sharing them with you!! If you enjoyed watching this first vlog - be sure to like / comment / subscribe (and all that jazz) so you don't miss future ones! ;)
Next weekend, I am headed to Montana for a portfolio showcase / creative retreat - and am looking forward to shooting video and sharing all of that with you too. Stay tuned!
