Naan flatbread is one of my absolute favorite types of bread! It is so versatile and you can eat it in so many different ways. Today, I'm going to show you how I use it to make homemade pizza. :)
I personally love the Stonefire brand, which is carried by my local supermarket - but you can use whatever brand you'd like! Stonefire's bread is Tandoor baked, hand stretched, and contains no artificial preservatives. Trader Joe's also has some yummy ones. I usually get the garlic flavored kind because I loveeeee garlic and am all for an extra layer of flavor (in everything that I eat!)
WHAT YOU NEED:
Beyond the flatbread, tomato sauce, and cheese - you can really put whatever the heck you want on it, but here's a full list of what I like to put on mine:
- 1 naan flatbread
- tomato sauce (homemade or store bought - Bertolli is usually my go-to brand!)
- orange / red cherry tomatoes (sliced)
- bell peppers (diced)
- red onions (diced)
- white mushrooms (sliced or diced)
- pineapple (diced)
- garlic (chopped)
- cilantro (chopped)
- basil (whole leaves)
- sea salt + pepper
I don't measure anything out when I make pizza (or when I make anything really... lol) - so my best advice is to just cut up ingredients as you go as see how much you need based on the size of your flatbread. Every flatbread brand is different!
WHAT TO DO:
I think the key to topping your own homemade pizza is LAYERS! Layer it up like a BOSS! A good pizza to me isn't just toppings piled on top of cheese piled on top of sauce. I usually lay down a layer of sauce first, add freshly chopped garlic, sprinkle salt + pepper, add some fresh herbs, and then the tomatoes. Sometimes I'll also add onions or mushrooms or peppers here as well - THEN, I'll pile on some cheese, more herbs, more tomatoes / onions / mushrooms / peppers - and then sprinkle a little bit more cheese on the very top too. You get the idea! ;)
Once you pile all the goods onto your flatbread in epic layers, pop it in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until your cheese is melted, and enjoy! :)
PS: While the naan flatbread is great and all, I'm still in search of the perfect pizza dough recipe! I have actually never tried making crust from scratch, but it's something I want to learn to do. Any suggestions?! Let me know in the comments section below if you have a good recipe!
